History
Chislic is South Dakota's emblematic bite, so much so that it was declared the state's official 'nosh.' It is credited to immigrants of German-Russian origin who arrived from Central Asia in the 19th century. It consists of seasoned red-meat cubes, traditionally lamb or mutton and also plains beef or bison, served with saltine crackers and hot sauce.
